Get a Free EstimateIn Ventura County, the backyard is a room you get to use almost year-round. Mild evenings, dry summers, and short winters mean a good patio earns its keep β for morning coffee, weekend barbecues, and dinners outside well into fall. A paver patio gives you a finished, level surface to build all of that around, and it does it with far more character than a slab of gray concrete.
The reason we steer most homeowners toward pavers comes down to how they hold up. Poured concrete cracks β it's not a question of if but when, especially with our soil movement and the occasional ground shift. When a paver moves or a section settles, we lift the affected pavers, fix the base, and reset them; you'd never know. Concrete, once it cracks, you live with it or tear the whole thing out. Pavers also come in a huge range of colors, shapes, and laying patterns, so the patio can match your home instead of fighting it.
What makes a paver patio last isn't the pavers β it's what's under them. At Ventura Landscape & Design, we excavate to the right depth, lay and compact a proper aggregate base, set the pavers on bedding sand, and lock everything in with edge restraint and polymeric joint sand. The result is a patio that drains correctly, stays flat, and pairs beautifully with an outdoor kitchen, fire pit, or seat wall when you're ready to add one.
Pavers flex with ground movement, and individual units can be lifted and reset if anything ever shifts.
A patio turns unused yard into a real outdoor room for dining, lounging, and entertaining guests.

We know how to lay out patios for indoor-outdoor living and pair them with kitchens, fire pits, and walls.
It depends on the square footage, the paver you choose, the site conditions, and any extras like steps, seat walls, or built-in features. A simple rectangular patio is more economical than a large curved design with multiple elements. We'll measure the space, talk through your goals, and give you a clear free estimate.
For most homeowners, yes. Stamped concrete looks good at first, but it still cracks, and the color and pattern are sealed onto one solid slab you can't easily repair. Pavers are individual units β they resist cracking, and if one ever needs attention we lift and reset it. They tend to age better and stay repairable for the life of the patio.
They're low-maintenance. An occasional sweep and rinse keeps them looking good. Sealing is optional β it deepens the color and adds stain resistance, and we can apply it if you want that finish. Mostly you just enjoy the patio.
Not the way they do with old sand-set patios. We lock the joints with polymeric sand, which hardens to resist weeds, ants, and washout. Combined with a properly compacted base, it keeps the joints tight and the surface clean for the long haul.
Most residential patios come together in a matter of days, depending on the size, access, and any extras. The base work is what takes the most time β and it's the part you don't want rushed. We'll give you a realistic timeline up front and keep the site tidy throughout.
We design and install paver patios throughout Ventura County, including Ventura, Oxnard, Camarillo, Santa Paula, Saticoy, Port Hueneme, Ojai, Thousand Oaks, Newbury Park, Moorpark, and Fillmore.
