Get a Free EstimateA mature tree is one of the most valuable things on your property. It shades the house, cools the yard, and gives the whole place a sense of permanence that a new landscape just can't fake. But a tree that's been topped, ignored, or hacked at by the wrong crew becomes a liability fast β weak limbs over the roof, branches in the power lines, and a canopy that catches every gust off the Pacific.
Ventura County throws a particular mix at our trees: dry summers that stress roots, Santa Ana winds that test every branch, and clay soils that hold water unevenly. On top of that, we have a lot of mature coast live oaks, California pepper trees, and big eucalyptus that all need very different handling. Prune an oak like a fruit tree and you'll do real damage; leave a eucalyptus shaggy and it'll shed heavy limbs without warning.
At Ventura Landscape & Design, we make pruning cuts that the tree can actually heal, thin canopies so wind passes through instead of pushing the tree over, and pull deadwood before it falls on its own. When a tree truly has to come down, we remove it cleanly and grind the stump so you get your yard back. The goal is always the same: healthy trees, a safer property, and clean lines you can live with.
Proper pruning removes disease and crowding so your trees put energy into strong growth instead of fighting themselves.
Thinned canopies and removed deadwood mean fewer branches coming down on your roof, car, or fence when the winds pick up.
We open up clearance from rooflines, chimneys, and power lines to help keep your home defensible during fire season.
Thoughtful shaping lets light back into the yard and restores views without sacrificing the shade you want to keep.
We walk your property, identify each species, and flag deadwood, structural issues, and any branches threatening the home or lines.
You get a straightforward scope β what we'll trim, thin, remove, or grind β and an upfront price with no surprises.
We make proper cuts, protect the surrounding landscape, and lower limbs safely instead of letting them drop.
We chip and haul the debris, grind stumps where needed, and leave your yard cleaner than we found it.
We treat your trees like the long-term investment they are β pruned correctly, cleaned up completely, and handled by an accountable local crew.
Tree work has real risk β we carry proper coverage and follow safe practices so you're protected throughout the job.
Oaks, peppers, eucalyptus, and citrus each get pruned the right way for how they grow in Ventura County.
We chip, haul, and rake so the only thing left behind is a healthier tree and a tidy yard.
Mostly size, access, and what needs to happen. A small ornamental trim is quick; a large eucalyptus next to power lines or a removal in a tight backyard takes more time, gear, and care. Stump grinding and debris volume factor in too. We give you a free, itemized estimate so you know exactly what you're paying for.
Possibly. Many Ventura County jurisdictions protect native oaks and other heritage trees, and work on them can require a permit. We'll tell you when a tree looks protected and point you to the right process before any cuts are made, so you stay on the right side of local rules.
It depends on the species. Many trees do best pruned in their dormant or cooler months, while oaks are generally best pruned in summer to reduce disease risk. We time the work to each tree's needs β and we can always remove hazardous limbs whenever safety calls for it.
Often a tree that looks rough just needs deadwood removed, better thinning, and a season to recover. But if the trunk is failing, roots are compromised, or it's an ongoing hazard, removal is the safer call. We'll give you an honest read rather than pushing a removal you don't need.
We can grind it down below grade so you can replant, lay sod, or build over the spot. Grinding clears the visible stump and the upper roots; we then backfill the void with the grindings or soil so the area blends back into your yard.
We trim, prune, and remove trees throughout Ventura County, including Ventura, Oxnard, Camarillo, Santa Paula, Saticoy, Port Hueneme, Ojai, Thousand Oaks, Newbury Park, Moorpark, and Fillmore.
